“Itacare” is located 60 km from “Ilheus”,
one of the main urban centres of “Bahia”, northeast part
of Brazil.
“Itacare” is a town with 20.000 inhabitants, joyful people
who were blessed by they natural surroundings.
Itacaré beaches
are as paradisiacal as in the rest of Brazil. The temperature in winter
varies between 20ºC and 24ºC and in summer around 28ºC.
The river “Contas” is also a local attraction with its
small streams where you can enjoy golden sunrises and sunsets.
No way you will get bored in our surf camp, the sea is warm and turquoise
colored, there are beautiful coral reefs, fruit and tropical vegetation…
Beaches with palmtrees and wonderfull refreshing drinks such as fresh
coconut water or the famous “Caipirinha” (local rum, lime,
ice and sugar).
Without a doubt the choice of waves in “Itacare” make
it one of the best surf cities in the world. It’s for nothing
that is called the brasilian Hawaii, the Meca of Surf
in South América.
Long way from Salvador Bahia Ssa (450 kms, 7hours driving and does not worth your effort. The best option is to take a flight from Salvador airport (SSA) to Ilheus Airport (IOS). (just 30 min. flight) (check www.voegol.com.br or www.tam.com.br ) . We will pick you up at IOS to our surfcamp.
SURF REPORT
There are over 10 surfing spots. The great thing about “Itacare” is that you can find from nice and easy beach breaks to big waves on shallow coral reef. This is why it is called the brasilian Hawaii.
In Brazil climatic conditions can change at any time so big swells can come any time of the year. Due to its diverse sea floor and geographical conditions, “Itacare” is considered one of the best places to surf in Brazil…
Summer (December-March)
Summer is when you get small swells, wave size varies between 1mt to 1,5mt. Sometimes a winter type swell comes in but the heat is intense and the wind blowing on-shore in the afternoons. Luckily the wind is always offshore early in the morning, which helps to create beautiful tubes.
The busy streets of “Itacare” are full of tourists and foreigners, so night life is wild… still not as good as the swells that come in March and open the surfing season….
Autumn (March-June)
In Autumn the waves vary between 1 and 2 meters. The good part is that the surf crowd is smaller and there are fewer tourists on the streets. The weather can be sunny as well as cloudy.
Winter (June-September)
Predominantly medium and big waves, between 1 and 3mt. The temperature can get as low as 20ºC but “Itacare” turns into a real “Surf City” attracting the best brasilian surfers. The variety and consistency of “Itacare” breaks offer different kinds of waves with a small crowd during “big” days and in the morning… since the nights are always wild…
Spring (September-December)
Conditions are similar to autumn. Waves get smaller and gain perfection especially in the morning. It gets crowded only on weekends so you can take advantage of the morning offshore wind to catch some nice tubes.
“Engenhoca”, “Rosende” and “Tiririca” are some of the beaches where the brasilian circuit events (“Super Surf Brasileiro”) take place each year. And what better way to enjoy “Itacare” to its maximum than adventuring in comfort. That is exactly the slogan of “Itacare experience”…."Itacaré Experience"...
